mariadb compilation flags

how come mariadb is compiled on linux 64 bit with -O2 rather than -O3? mysql is compiled with -O3. does it make any difference? thanks!

Answer Answered by Kristian Nielsen in this comment.

I do not know of any particular reason. It may even differ between different packages.

There are different schools as to which of -O2 and -O3 to prefer.

We would welcome any benchmark that shows one is better than the other.
