MariaDB & MySQL Replication Compatibility

Is replication possible from master MySQL server version: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.71, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.1 to MySQL server version: mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 5.5.52-MariaDB, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1.?

We use RedHat7 OS on slave server and we can't install lower version of MariaDB server then 5.5. So we install this version and now we must to configure replication but we aren't sure if this is possible for these versions.

Thanks

Usually replication from a lower version to a higher version works painlessly, so replicating from 5.1 to 5.5 should be fine.
