ARCHIVE equivalent

What options are there to have a log table that is difficult to change but quick to search using criterias even during inserts? Something like an ARCHIVE with indicies or an InnoDB without UPDATE or DELETE.

Answer Answered by Federico Razzoli in this comment.

InnoDB is fast, supports compression, and generally is the best choice. If you want to inhibit UPDATEs and DELETEs, you can use permissions. If you don't want for some reason, you could define BEFORE UPDATE and BEFORE DELETE triggers, which SIGNAL an error.
